Is football the only interesting game in Nigeria

Recent happenings around our sporting life has made Football to be an opium of sort. When Nigeria did not qualify for Nations cup, some people quickly called for the head of Eagles Talisman,Samson Siasia. In similar vein,Nigeria played Rwanda in Kigali a goaless draw and it seems many people are preparing their Trumpet to make a loud call for Stephen Keshi's head too.But the NFF in their characteristic manner quickly ran abroad and source for a Foreign Technical manager to work alongside Stephen Keshi, what this trend portend is dangerous as it shows clearly that the only sport that brings fame to Nigeria is Football whereas sporting activities like Boxing,Athletics,Wrestling and a host of others were once household names in Nigeria. It is high time we look inward and explore other games apart from football.Even the football that we love in this country is foreign/imported football such as English premierships,La-Liga,UEFA Championships,Italian serie-A and a host of others. Our Local league has suffered so much that i cant remember when last we have had full capacity crowd at our local stadia across the nation when teams like shooting stars of Ibadan is playing Enyimba Of Aba.The lackadaisical attitudes of our sport administrators over the last 2 decade is worrisome, except in football and athletics,Nigeria has had no improvement of sort in other games, looking at the trend we might not qualify for any major events internationally or region wise comes another 2 decade if the trend is not reversed.I just wish we could revive other sports apart from football and see what will become of our economy, games such as mountain climbing can attract tourist which is a source of foreign exchange, swimming too can attract a whole lot of foreign participants and at the same time expose our local athletes, beach soccer which Nigeria just won the current edition is another aspects of football with entertainment background and a form of relaxation,so much can be seen of other games in terms of prospects and revenue generation but our govt has turned the football house in Abuja to a CASH-COW where every kitten, lamb and calf milked.May God open their eyes to the opportunities in other games before we bid football farewell in this country.Lekan Olanite

THE GOLDEN BOYS

The under 17 boys has done it again, they took New Zealand by the storm yesterday,if not for the intervention of the referee who stopped the match at 90 minutes,it could have been showers of goals. The boys has really impressed and shown commitment in their playing pattern compared to their under 20 counterpart who went as far as Egypt to disgrace Nigeria.

NIGERIA UNDER 17

In recent times i have observed that Nigerians like to celebrate their victory even when the victory has not been earned. This cost us the progress expected in Egypt 09 against Germany, but this time around i hope the under 17 will learn to seal the VICTORY first before they celebrate.

our under 17

The under 17 team from the very first day of the competition has shown that seriousness is in them ,at least they have given us the very good reason to still love Nigerian football

The Nigerian National football teams have continually disgrace us in the public. It will be foolish refering ourself sometimes as the giant of Africa when ordinarily we can not lift the lightest trophy in the sporting arena.I think its time we go back to the basics and correct the erroneous impressions we always delude ourselves with and get out of the doldrum of deceit.
